Context is Everything

You hear the latest trends and the latest dietary and workout advice. Are they calling your name? How do you determine if you should jump on board? Here’s some buzzwords floating around right now:

  • Intermittent fasting

  • Keto

  • High intensity workouts

Should you partake? Will it solve your problems? Help you meet your goal?

Who knows, possibly, but CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING and something you should definitely consider before diving in.

I know, because after all, I use to believe that if some was good, more must be better, right? Not necessarily.

Here are some questions to ask yourself before indulging in the latest advise:

  • What are my goals?

  • What am I trying to achieve?

  • How much stress am I currently under?

  • Can my body handle added stress right now?

  • Am I in a good place to take on new challenges?

  • Am I in the right mental space to adopt change?

  • Am I getting ample sleep?

Here’s the thing, while all these new trends are floating around and may sound like great ideas, they can be stressful on our bodies. See, we all have a stress bucket and it all depends how full yours is right now. If you’re at a tipping point and you’re barely keeping it from overflowing, then adding in a new stressor probably isn’t the greatest idea.

However, if you’re in a good place, managing life with ease, then perhaps these things could indeed help you achieve your goals. It all depends what your goals are and where you’re at in your life.

Just remember context is everything. Just because you’re neighbor or friend or whomever is doing the latest thing, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right thing for you too. Evaluate and reconnect with your body, so you can make the right decisions for you.
